Cynthia D.M. Brown, Esq., VP, Legal Affairs - Commonwealth Trust Company served as discussion leader at the 2008 Delaware Trust Conference sponsored by Delaware Bankers Association. Cindy lead the discussion on directed trusts: The Use Of Delaware Trust Advisors To Limit Trustee Liability By Segregating Trustee Functions And Creating Flexibility And Independence Within The Trust Structure. Additionally, Cindy contributed to the panel discussion on trust ethics in Delaware: An Examination of Particular Responsibilities and Concerns of Trust Counsel in Guiding the Relationships Among Trustee, Beneficiaries and Pertinent Regulatory Overseers. Cindy was also a member of the Planning Committee for the conference.

The three day conference focused on the unique aspects of the Delaware trust industry with panel discussions specific to personal and corporate trusts. Participating in the conference were trust and wealth management professionals, attorneys, CPAs and others in related fields. One of the 50 experts scheduled as a panelist was Susan S. Fisher, CPA, CTFA, VP, Trust Operations - Commonwealth Trust Company. Susan was a panelist in the discussion: Foreign & Domestic Taxes as They Apply to Delaware Personal Trusts. The discussion was a review and update of new tax regulations and rulings including current trends in personal trust taxation. Susan’s presentation covered reporting requirements related to trusts with foreign grantors and beneficiaries.
